YULIA KARPOVA (Århus)

Yulia Karpova is a PhD, design historian, researcher.
Yulia lived in Severodvinsk, before she left Arkhangelsk region. She then graduated from Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design (Saint Petersburg, 2008) and Central European Univerisyt (Budapest, 2009). Her Master thesis is The Stilyagi. Soviet Youth Subculture of the 1950s and Its Fashion. Her PhD thesis is Designer Socialism: the Aesthetic Turn in Russia after Stalin.
She visited Princeton University as a student, and currently is a postdoctoral researcher at Århus Univeristy, Denmark. Her research interests are Comparative History of Central and Eastern Europe, History of Material Culture, History of Art and Design, Late Socialism, History of Russian and Soviet Visual Art, Feminist Art Production and Art Criticism.
